September 2003 Welcome Moldova Magazine Civil Society Is Concerned With The Situation Of The Dniester About two thirds of Moldova’s territory belongs to the Dniester River basin. In recent years a lot of publications about the endangered status of this medium-size European river have appeared. Polluted water, endangered human health, destroyed ecosystem, reducing fish resources, – these are some consequences of unsustainable water management. Special concern is expressed by civil organizations of both Moldova and Ukraine. Welcome magazine asked to comment on the issue Dr.Ilya Trombitsky, board member of BIOTICA Ecological Society, who at present is also executive director of an umbrella NGO, the ‘Eco-TIRAS’ International Environmental Association of River Keepers, uniting 36 NGOs along the Dniester River. Ethno-Jazz Festival
Ethno-Jazz Festival was a big musical event in the cultural life of Moldova. It took place in Mihai Eminescu Theater and attracted jazz amateurs of different ages and preferences. For the first time the festival was organized last year on the occasion of folk-jazz band Trigon’s 10th anniversary in cooperation with the Coliseum Center of Arts. And then it was decided that the holding of the festival should become a good tradition. This year the four days of the festival were filled with famous jazz interpreters’ stage performances and round-table to master-class exchange of experience discussions. Continued >>>
